Theresa Scarpo

Obituary Condolences

Theresa M Scarpo 1922-2012 Theresa M Scarpo was born July 22, 1922 in Long Island City, N.Y. the second daughter of Rocco and Maria Napolillo Anastasio. Her parents, her oldest sister Margaret Smith and one brother Amato Anastasio have predeceased her. She is survived by her brothers Steven and Mickey Anastasio and her most beloved and dearest sister Ada Cooper who has always been there for her in all times good and bad. Frank J. Scarpo 'found his angel' at St. Mary's Church, Long Island City where they married June 12, 1948. They moved to Hamden, Conn., and raised four children; Frank A, Kenny, Linda and Nancy. Frank passed on in August 1981 leaving Theresa living with Nancy, her 'special' daughter who has been mentally handicapped since birth. She was blessed with five grandsons: Jason Scarpo, Justin Scarpo, Joshua Scarpo, Derek Bove and Jared Bove. She also was a Great-Grandmother to Jacob Scarpo. In 1994 Theresa and Nancy moved to North Bennington Vt., to be close to daughter Linda Bove and family. She was an excellent seamstress, cook and baker. She enjoyed doing crafts with Nancy and was a fervent member of St John the Baptist Church. The only time that she would get angry is when you didn't eat and then wouldn't eat some more. No one could ever say an unkind word about her for she exemplified the meanings of kindness and goodness. Even when the Alzheimers Disease slowly and painstakingly removed her from us, that core of her being still shined brightly. Theresa and Nancy have been each other's 'touchstones' and have relied and depended on each other. This was exemplified with the progression of this illness. Her family would like to thank everyone who has supported Theresa and Nancy especially Sally Perkins, Maryanne Risma and everyone at UCS, the staff at BPI, Corrine Levin and Jillian, Michelle and Chris Grandy, the wonderful caregivers at Emeritus at Fillmore Pond Memory Care Unit and to the many others along the way. FUNERAL NOTICE: A celebration of Theresa's life will be held Saturday March 10, 2012 at 11 a.m. at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home in Bennington. Friends are invited to pay their respects to the family at the funeral home on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be at Shaftsbury Center Cemetery. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Emeritus at Fillmore Pond Memory Care Unit or to Alzheimer's Research through the office of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main Street, Bennington, VT 05201. Guest book condolences may be made at www.maharandsonfuneralhome.net. On March 6, 2012 in the 1900th hour, Frank J Scarpo and Our Lord welcomed home their most special Angel.
