BENNINGTON -- Thomas E. Hayes Jr., 46, a resident of Lora Lane, Bennington, died suddenly on Tuesday, March 14, 2006, at his residence.

Born in Bennington on June 18, 1959, he was the son of Thomas E. Hayes Sr. and Irma (Lake) Hayes. He received his education in the Arlington schools and was a 1977 graduate of Arlington Memorial High School. Tom later served a four-year apprenticeship to obtain his license as an electrician.

He married the former Kelly Barnard on June 20, 1998, at the Second Congregational Church in Bennington.

At the time of his death, Tom, together with his partner Mike Hart, owned and operated H & H Electric in Bennington. He had previously been employed at WPI Hart Electric.

Tom was a member of the Bennington Loyal Order of Moose No. 1233 and also VFW Post 6471 and Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 2551, both of Manchester. He enjoyed playing golf, working on his lawn, telling jokes and playing pranks on his many friends. He was an avid fan of the Green Bay Packers and will be remembered for the many times he lent a helping hand to his many friends. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife, Kelly Hayes of Bennington; a daughter, Taylor Hayes of Bennington; two sons, Preston Hayes of Bennington and Gregory Hayes of West Lebanon, N.H.; a stepdaughter, Brittany Barnard of Bennington; his parents, Thomas and Irma Hayes of Arlington; a brother, Anthony Hayes and his wife, Tracy, of West Hebron, N.Y.; four sisters, Deborah Brown and her husband, Robert, and Pamela Vollinger and her husband, Thomas, all of Arlington, Angel Hayes and her fiancé, Louie Lascarbeau, of North Adams, Mass., and Becky Hayes and her fiancé, Brian Koscinski, of Sunderland; his mother-in-law, Ellen Barnard of Bennington, a brother-in-law, Ronald Barnard and his wife, Melissa, of Bennington; two sisters-in-law, Sandra Barnard and her partner, Cheryl Marquis, of Readsboro, and Robyn Kasper and her husband, John, of Sandgate; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

The funeral will be held from the Second Congregational Church, Hillside Street, Bennington, today at 11 a.m. with Rev. Mary Lee-Clark, pastor, officiating.

Private committal services will take place in the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

Contributions in Tom’s memory may be made to Kelly Hayes in care of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main St., Bennington, VT 05201 to establish an educational fund for their daughter, Taylor.

In celebration of Tom’s life, relatives and friends are invited to the Bennington Moose Lodge today from 12 to 3 p.m. for a time of sharing and remembrance.
