Obituary Condolences

MANCHESTER -- The liturgy of Christian death and burial for Thomas J. Hughes was celebrated Saturday morning, Aug. 14, at St. Paul Catholic Church in Manchester.

The Rev. John Whalen was the celebrant. Music for the Mass was under the direction of organist and violinist Michael Gallagher. The reader was Kenneth Linehan and the altar server was Molly Sheehan. The pall was placed on the casket by Mr. Hughes’ wife, Suzanne, and his sister Maureen Slipek. Scripture readings were offered by Mr. Hughes’ brother-in-law Frank Karkut and his sister Maureen Slipek. Offertory gifts were presented at the altar by Mr. Hughes’ nephews John Owen, Jordan and Jeffrey Slipek. Serving as pallbearers were Frank Karkut, John Slipek, Vincent, David and V.J. Occhino and David Krasner.

Committal services followed in Delwood Cemetery, where the Rev. Whalen offered burial rites and committal prayers. A gathering of family and friends for a time of fellowship was held in the parish center at St. Paul Church. On Friday evening and Saturday morning at the funeral home, the Rev. Whalen conducted a Catholic prayer and vigil service.

Thomas J. Hughes of Manchester died Wednesday morning, Aug. 11, 2004, at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington. Funeral arrangements were under the care of the Brewster Funeral Service, 34 Park Place, Manchester Center.
