Obituary Condolences

Thomas Lapointe Jr. 1920 - 2009 BENNINGTON Thomas J. Lapointe Jr., 88, passed away peacefully on July 19, 2009, at the Vermont Veterans Home. Tom was born on Aug. 14, 1920 in Van Buren, Maine, the last of five children born to Thomas J. Lapointe Sr. and Amanda Gagnon Lapointe. He was a graduate of Van Buren High School and attended Ricker College, adding ski jumping to his lifelong love of skiing, which led directly to his enlistment in the Army's 10th Mountain Division (ski troops) in 1942. During World War II, Tom saw action on the Aleutian Islands and also in the PoValley and the Apennines Mountains of Italy. He was awarded the Bronze Star along with other military honors. After the war, he began working at Loring Air Force Base in Limestone, Maine, as a civil engineer and then later moved with his family to Exeter, N.H., and continued at Pease Air Force Base in Portsmouth, N.H., until his retirement 35 years later in 1982. For the next 20 years, Tom and Adrinette devoted themselves to improving their golf game in Ellenton, Fla., before moving to Vermont in October, 2007. He was the beloved and adored husband of Adrinette for 61 devoted years; the loving father of John and his wife, Linda, of Manchester, Patrick and his friend, Kay, of Fort Myers, Fla., and the cherished grandfather of Jamie; all of whom will forever miss his kindness and sense of humor. FUNERAL NOTICE: A Mass of Christian Death will be celebrated at Sacred Heart-St. Francis de Sales Church, Bennington, on Thursday, July 23, 2009, at 10 a.m. Contributions may be sent to the Vermont Veterans Home Activity Fund, c/o HANSON-WALBRIDGE FUNERAL HOME, P.O.
