Obituary Condolences

ARLINGTON -- A celebration of the life of Thomas P. Whalen was held on Saturday morning, Feb. 19, at St. Margaret Mary’s Church in Arlington, with the Rev. George Dupuis presiding.

The reading from the Book of Wisdom was read by Mrs. Cecil Bandman. Mr. Paul Beaulieu read Psalm 27 and Mr. Philip Leonard read from the Book of Revelations. Musical selections included “How Great Thou Art,” “Ave Maria,” “Exaltation” and “His Eye is On The Sparrow.” The musical selections were performed by Ms. Mary Jo Deignan at the organ, Mr. Nathaniel Parke on the cello, Mr. Maurice Rancourt on the trumpet, Ms. Ellen Sager on the viola and Ms. Susan Reiss and Mrs. Harriet Welther on violins. Soloist for the service was Mr. David Lewis.

Words of welcome and tributes were offered by Mr. Whalen’s son John L. Whalen II. Others who offered tributes and memories included a nephew, Andrew Leonard; a close family friend, Joyce “Birdie” Wyman; and his brother, John M. Whalen. The prayers of intercession were offered by Ms. Stephanie Tomei. Attending the services were members of the Vermont Bar Association.

The family received friends at the West Mountain Inn following the services.

A private Mass of the resurrection and interment took place Friday, Feb. 18, at St. Margaret Mary’s Church and in St. Columban’s Cemetery, where the Rev. Robert Whalen, a cousin of the deceased, officiated.

Thomas P. Whalen, 65, a resident of Buck Hill in Arlington, died Feb. 13, 2005 at his home following a long illness. Arrangements were under the direction of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home in Bennington.
