Obituary Condolences

BENNINGTON -- Funeral services for Thomas R. Dwyer were held from Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2003 where the liturgy of Christian death and burial was offered by the Rev. Robert Lozinski, c.s.c., pastor.

The organist was Don McMahon and the cantor was Monica Murray. Hymns offered during the funeral mass were “Here I Am Lord,” “On Eagle’s Wings,” “Amazing Grace” and “Be Not Afraid.”

The funeral pall that draped Mr. Dwyer’s casket during the funeral mass was placed by his daughters Peggy Taber, Sharon Stepp, Brenda Hayes and Ann (Tess) Leary. A wooden cross was placed on the pall by Mr. Dwyer’s son, Thomas R. Dwyer Jr. The scriptural readings were offered by two granddaughters, Jennifer Woods and Andrea Stepp. The offertory gifts were presented by Mr. Dwyer’s brother and sister-in-law Greg and Pat Dwyer.

Acolytes were Charles Gould, Leonard Anzivino, Val Clifford and Francis Sausville.

Bearers were six grandsons, Jason, Daniel and Zachary Taber, Juston Dwyer, Nathan Hayes and Ross Stepp.

A prayer service at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home preceded the funeral mass.

Mr. Dwyer’s casket was transported to the church on a fire truck from the Bennington Fire Department and the funeral procession paused at Putnam Square where the fire alarm was sounded in Mr. Dwyer’s honor. Mr. Dwyer was a member of the Bradford Hook and Ladder Company of the Bennington Fire Department for over 45 years. Members of the Hook & Ladder company also formed an honor guard during the visiting hours at the funeral home on Tuesday and at the service on Wednesday.

The wake service was offered on Wednesday at the funeral home by Father Lozinski. Also on Wednesday members of the Bradford Hook & Ladder Company were led in the Fireman’s Prayer by Past Chief William LaTour.

Entombment took place at Park Lawn Chapel with burial to be in this cemetery at a later date.

Mr. Dwyer, a resident of South Stream Road, Bennington, died Dec. 6, 2003 at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home.
