Obituary Condolences

EAST DORSET -- Thomas R. Grimm Jr., 87, of Green Peak Orchard in East Dorset, died Monday morning, Feb. 21, 2005, at his home.

He was born on Sept. 3, 1917, in Orange Memorial Hospital, Orange, N.J. After graduating from Columbia High School in South Orange, N.J., he attended Duke University, where he was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. He earned his wings as a second lieutenant in the Air Corps Reserve and served in Lima, Peru, South America where he was affiliated with Pan American Grace Airways.

After 40 years as a commercial pilot, he retired as a captain with Pan American Airlines. Concurrently, he established a second career designing and building nearly 145 homes in Fairfield County, Conn.

Tom enjoyed sailing, surfing, skiing, fishing, tennis and world travel. He was the last living member of the I.O.C. (International Order of Characters), one of few distinguished members of the Mykonos Hiatus Club, the Ekwanok Country Club of Manchester and a former member of the Dorset Field Club of Dorset. He was a member of the United Church of Dorset and East Rupert.

He is survived by Eunice, his loving wife of 37 years; four daughters, Margot Orr of Darien, Conn., Judith Grimm of Wilton, Conn., Nancy Reisinger of Wellfleet, Mass. and Darcy Thurrott of Woodbury, Conn.; a stepson Weston C. Pullen III of Fort Worth, Texas; a stepdaughter, Crary J. Pullen of Brooklyn, N.Y.; nine grandchildren; one stepgrandson and eight great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, William Grimm of Jacksonville, Fla., and was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Grimm of Toms River, N.J.

A celebration of life for Mr. Grimm will be held Saturday afternoon, Feb. 26, 2005, at 1 p.m. at the United Church of Dorset and East Rupert.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mr. Grimm’s memory may be made to the Dorset Nursing Association or the charity of one’s choice, c/o Brewster Funeral Service, P.O. Box 885, Manchester Center, VT 05255.
