HOOSICK FALLS, N.Y. -- Thomas J. Restino, 91, died suddenly Saturday, July , 7, 2007, at the Bennington Health and Rehabilitation Center in Bennington, Vt., where he has resided for the last six months. He formerly resided on Fourth Street in Hoosick Falls.

Tom was born on Aug. 5, 1915, in Hoosick Falls, son of the late Savario (Sam) G. and Albina (Illuzzi) Restino. He attended Hoosick Falls High School and was a veteran of the United States Army. Tom was with the first group to land on the beaches of Normandy during on June 6, 1944, the battle of D-Day. He was employed at the Wood Flong Corporation and Lydall in Hoosick Falls until retiring in 1980. He was a communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church, a life member of the Hoosick Falls Fire Department, American Legion Post 40 and the Senior Citizens in Hoosick Falls.

Tom loved his vegetable garden which he planted in the spring and sitting under the grapevine which his father planted eighty years ago. Tom was an avid Yankees fan.

Survivors include his sister Lucy Allen of Hoosick Falls; and two brothers Joseph Restino (Pauline) of Bennington and Michael Restino (Winnie) of Hoosick Falls. Tom is also survived by a nephew Fr. Joseph M. Scerbo, S.A. PhD. and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He is predeceased by four sisters Angeline Scerbo, Nina Pitcheralle, Nancy Benkoski and Marie Restino and two brothers Angelo and John Restino.

Funeral services will be Friday at 11:30 a.m. from the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street in Hoosick Falls. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 12 p.m. from the Immaculate Conception Church on Main Street. Burial will follow the mass at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Hoosick Falls. The funeral mass will be offered by Fr. Joseph M. Scerbo, S.A. PhD.

Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Friday morning from 9:30 a.m. until the start of the service. Memorial contributions may be made to either the Immaculate Conception Church or the Hoosick Falls Fire Department through the funeral home.
