Petty Officer 2nd Class1981 - 2010

MANCHESTER , VT Navy Deep Sea Diver Petty Officer 2nd class. Travis D. Frost, 28, formerly of Manchester, died unexpectedly Monday June 21, 2010, in St. Albans while participating in a fishing derby in Swanton on Lake Champlain with his father, Ken, and brother and best friend, Patrick.

Born in Bennington on Dec. 15, 1981, son of Kendall Frost and Mary Johnson, Travis grew up in Manchester and attended Manchester Elementary School and Burr and Burton High School. He played catcher for the high school baseball team and was on the football team the first year it was reinstated at the school. Following high school, he worked with his father. He began dating his wife, Jessica, in May 2001. A week after the 9/11 attack, Travis told Jesssica he loved her and that he was going to join the Navy. During his nine-year career, he became an accomplished Navy diver. He was currently attached to the Mobil Diving and Salvage Unit 2 team in Company 21 at Little Creek Amphibious Base in Virginia.

Travis had been deployed on several occasions, the most recent to assist in the Haitian relief efforts for which he received The Humanitarian Service Award and Navy Achievement Medal.

Travis was a Boy Scout and played American Legion baseball as catcher for Post 13 in Bennington. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowboarding, diving and spending time with his family. He especially loved Vermont and all it had to offer the avid outdoorsman that he was.

He leaves his wife, Jessica Metcalfe Frost of Virginia Beach, Va., whom he married on July 28, 2003, in Jacksonville Beach, Fla. He also leaves his mother and stepfather, Mary and Keith Casey of Manchester; father and step-mother, Kendall Frost and Terri-Ann Vaillancourt of North Adams, Mass., grandparents, Pauline and Philip Frost of Sandgate and William Stratton of Bennington; brothers, Patrick Frost of North Reading, Mass., and Nicholas Casey of Manchester; sisters, Aubrey and Whitney Frost, both of North Adams, Mass.; father-and mother-in-law, Stephen and Christine Metcalfe of Pawlet; mother-in-law, Mary Albyn of East Rupert; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Emily and David Morse, and their daughter, Annabella, of Manchester, as well as several aunts, uncles, cousins and his Navy "Deep Sea" family.

He was predeceased by his grandmother, Sheila Cusato.

Travis also leaves behind their beloved dog, Crimson.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 29, at 11 a.m. at St. Paul's Church in Manchester Center with the Rev. Wayne Bell officiating. Full military honors will follow the service at the church. Interment will be private. Friends may call at the BREWSTER FUNERAL HOME, 34 Park Place, Manchester Center, on Monday from 4-8 p.m., when the family will be present.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial gifts be made to the Travis Frost Memorial Fishing Fund ( to benefit young fisherman) with checks payable to Kendall Frost. Gifts may be sent to Brewster Funeral Home, P.O. Box 885, Manchester Center, VT 05255.
