Obituary Condolences

DERBY LINE -- Veda Mae Ryan, 86, of Derby Line, died Saturday, April 22, 2006, in Bennington.

She was born Aug. 24, 1919, in Woodsville, N.H., a daughter of Alvin and Mary (Barney) Adams. Veda attended the elementary grades while boarding at St. Paul’s convent school in Barton. She went on to our Lady of Grace Catholic Academy in Manchester, N.H., while working at St. Philomena Home for retired ladies, conducted by the Sisters of Mercy.

On Aug. 30, 1937, she married Gerald (Joe) Ryan. They settled on a diary farm in Derby where they spent many happy years with their children. Joe predeceased Veda on March 13, 1989.

Mrs. Ryan is survived by a daughter, Margaret (Peggy) Moulton, and her husband of Coventry and by a son, Michael John Ryan of Shaftsbury. She is also survived by nine grandchildren: Vicky Whitehill and her husband, Jerry, of Morgan, Shane Moulton and his wife, Jaunita, of Irasburg, William (Billy) Moulton of Coventry, Chastity DeRohen and her husband, Michael, of Derby, Charity Moulton of Coventry, Gerald Wright of Claremont, N.H., and Kathryn, Courtney and Johnathan Ryan, all of Bennington.

She is also survived by five great-grandchildren: Joseph Whitehill, Danielle Whitehill, Justin Derohen, Kyle Moulton and Ryan Moulton; two sisters, Velma Blais of Pembroke, N.H., and Mona Hollis of Pittsburg, N.H.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a daughter, Mary Wright, and by a sister, Jean Perkins.

Mrs. Ryan was a member of St. Edward’s Catholic Church in Derby Line. Among her hobbies she enjoyed crotcheing, cooking and folding the bulletins for St. Edward’s and St. Benedict’s Church. She also taught Sunday school for many years.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, April 25, 2006, at the Curtis-Britch-Converse-Rushford Funeral Home, 4670 Darling Hill Road, formerly Sias Avenue, in Newport. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m.Wednesday, April 26, 2006, at St. Edward’s Catholic Church in Derby Line with the Rev. Yvon Royer celebrating a Mass of Christian burial. Interment will follow in St. Edward’s Catholic Cemetery in Derby Line.
