NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- Veronica May (LaRoche) Crockwell, 82, of 45 Spring St., Spring Street Apartments 318, North Adams, died Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2007, at the North Adams Commons. She was born in Gardner, Mass., on May 28, 1924, a daughter of the late Edward LaRoche and Ada (Brayman) LaRoche Raymond Ritcher.

She moved to Clarksburg, at an early age with her family and attended schools in Clarksburg and North Adams, including Drury High School. She was employed with the former H.W. Clark Biscuit Co., the Wall-Streeter Shoe Co. and Sprague Electric Co., all in North Adams.

Primarily she was a devoted homemaker for her family. She was a former member of the First Baptist Church of North Adams and later attended Harvest Christian Ministries of Bennington, Vt. Her husband was George John Crockwell whom she married Dec. 22, 1949. He died Aug. 6, 1991.

Survivors include four daughters, Linda DeSanty of Pownal, Vt., Veronica Rhoades of Pittsfield, Deborah Thorsson of New Smyma, Fla., Dorothy O’Dell of North Adams; two sons, George John Crockwell Jr., Hoosick Falls, N.Y., and David Edward Crockwell of Adams; 28 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Carolyn Brazeau of North Adams; three brothers Calvin Ritcher of North Adams, Clarence Ritcher and Robert Ritcher. She was predeceased by a daughter, Kathleen Dunnells, who died Dec. 28, 2003; one brother, Alfred “Skeet” Ritcher who died July 29, 2003; and two half brothers, Henry and Theodore Raymond.

Funeral services for Veronica May (LaRoche) Crockwell will take place Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Harvest Christian Ministries, 945 East Main St. Bennington, Vt. There are no calling hours. Memorial donations are suggested for the VNA & Hospice of Northern Berkshire through the Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St. North Adams, MA.
