INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Viola “Vi” Margaret Carelli, 87, died peacefully Sept. 3, 2005, at her residence in Indianapolis. She was the wife of the late Joseph Carelli who died in 1982. Vi formerly resided in Walloomsac, N.Y.

Mrs. Carelli was born on July 30, 1918, daughter of the late Oscar E. and Catherine G. (Fennessey) Ellis. She was formerly employed as a deputy town clerk for the town of Hoosick and also served as a deputy town assessor. Prior to moving to Indianapolis Viola was a member of the North Hoosick Fire Department Auxiliary, St. Mary’s Academy Auxiliary, the Grange, the Hoosick Falls Health Center Auxiliary and was a former president of the local Women’s Republican Club. She was also a communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church in Hoosick Falls.

Survivors include her daughter, Katherine Bartholomew and her husband Jeffery of Indianapolis; her granddaughter, Wendy Sue King and her husband Scott; three great-grandchildren, Michael, Nicholas and Olivia; her brother, George Lavin; her sisters, Ruth Marie Riley and her husband John and Margaret “Dolly” Cottrell; also survived by many nieces and nephews. Viola is predeceased by five brothers John and Robert Ellis, Paul, Thomas and William Lavin.

A Mass of Christian burial will be offered on Saturday at 10 a.m. from the Immaculate Conception Church on Main Street in Hoosick Falls. Burial will follow the Mass at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Hoosick Falls.

Relatives and friends may call at the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main St. in Hoosick Falls on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m.
