Obituary Condolences

Viola Moriarty

BENNINGTON Viola Rose Moriarty, a beautiful and inspiring artist, teacher, mother, wife and friend passed away in the early morning Thursday, April 18, 2013 after a six-year battle with cancer. Viola loved her family and making art. A native of Denver, Colorado, she moved to Vermont with her family 15 years ago. Her many friends all over the world, including the students she taught over the years, were profoundly impacted by knowing her.

Viola is survived by her husband, Jonathan Lev, and daughters, Anna and Phoebe Moriarty Lev, who love her more than chocolate, chilies, dancing, the Yankees, travelling, the Rocky Mountains (where they know they can always find her), and everything else in the world. She also leaves behind her parents Colleen and John Lubischer, sisters Emily Clement and Theresa Holst, and nephews Craig Clement, Austin Holst and Carson Holst, as well as many other loving family members and friends including her cats Henry and Dulcinea.

Viola brought something special yet indescribable to everything she did (in the kitchen, garden, studio, classroom, mountain top, etc.) In her own words, "Know who you are and what brings you joy, Do it, bring it, on purpose."

At Viola's request, there will be no funeral services. The family will be sitting shiva Sunday through Wednesday, April 24 and welcomes friends from 6 to 8 p.m. each of these nights at their home. There will be an exhibition of Viola's artwork this summer to honor and celebrates her art and life.

Memorial contributions may be made to the through the Mahar and Son Funeral Home, 628 Main St. Bennington, VT 05201.
