Virgil A. Righi

1920 - 2014 NORTH ADAMS Mr. Virgil A. Righi, 93, of 85 Eagle St., North Adams, and a former longtime resident of Readsboro, Vt., died Tuesday, April 2, 2014, at his home. He was born in Dare, Austria on Dec. 3, 1920, son of Achille and Agnes Dalbon Righi. He came to the United States at the age of 8 and attended schools in Readsboro, Vt. Virgil was a veteran of World War II and served in the US Coast Guard from 1942 to 1946 as a gunner's mate third class on the USS Lansing. He completed the beach patrol petty officer's school and the gunner's mate school. Virgil received the American and World War II Victory Ribbons, the Good Conduct Award, the Asiatic and Pacific Ribbon, and the European, African, Middle Eastern Ribbon. Virgil was the owner and operator of Righi's Appliance on Marshall St. for 35 years. He was a communicant of St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church and St. Joachim's Church in Readsboro, where he was a eucharistic minister. Virgil was a member of the American Legion in Readsboro, a member of the Knights of Columbus, and the Readsboro Lions Club. Survivors include his wife of 66 years, the former Rose M. Moresi, whom he married on June 28, 1947, in St. Anthony of Padua Church; a daughter, Janice Carlinsky and her husband, Mitchell, of Setauket, Long Island, N.Y.; three sons, Thomas Righi of Hudson, Mass., James Righi and his wife, Debra, of Stamford, Vt., and Wayne Righi of Readsboro, Vt.; four grandchildren, Christopher Righi of Stamford, Vt., Bryan Carlinsky of Huntington Beach, Calif., Tracy Carlinsky of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Jennifer Stevens and her husband, Jason, of Pooler, Ga.; two great-grandchildren, Hunter and Kaleigh Stevens; two sisters, Agnes Yorke of North Adams and Mary Ziemba of Middletown, Conn., and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceasd by three brothers, Julio, Achille, and Angelo. FUNERAL NOTICE: The Funeral mass for Virgil Righi will be celebrated Saturday, April 12, 2014, at 11 a.m. at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church. Burial will be in Village Cemetery in Readsboro later in the spring.
