NORTH BENNINGTON -- Virginia Hortence Goolsby, 92, formerly of Mountain View Road in Bennington, died Friday morning, March 10, 2006, at the Fairwinds Residential Care Home in North Bennington, where she had resided for 10 years.

Virginia was born in Concord, Va., on June 11, 1914, the daughter of Beverley H. and Amanda (Neighbors) Drinkard. She attended local schools.

Virginia worked as a secretary for The Pharmacy on North Street in Bennington from 1970 until 1982. From there she worked at the Bennington Museum from the mid 1980s through the mid 1990s. She enjoyed making crafts and cherished times spent with her family.

She was a member of the Second Congregational Church in Bennington and did volunteer work for the Grey Ladies at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center, Weston Hadden, the Retired Senior Volunteer Program and other volunteer agencies in Bennington.

Virginia’s last decade of life was enriched and blessed by the exceptionally loving care of Wanda and Wayne King and their entire staff at Fairwinds Residential Care Home. They became an integral part of the family.

Virginia is survived by her son, Charles L. Goolsby Jr. of Winfield, Ill.; her daughter, Judy Guilmette of North Conway, N.H.; four grandchildren, Richard C. Guilmette of Ware, N.H., James Guilmette of Hopkinton, N.H., Cindy Johnson of Bloomington, Ill., and Beth Guilmette of Cincinnati, Ohio; eight great-grandchildren and two nieces. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Goolsby, who died in 1986, her brother, Walter Drinkard, and her sister, Elizabeth Drinkard, who died in 1996.

Funeral services for Virginia will be held today, March 11, 2006, at 2 p.m. at the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home, 213 West Main St. The Rev. Mary Lee-Clark of the Second Congregational Church will conduct the service. Interment will follow in the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery in Bennington. There are no visiting hours.
