Obituary Condolences

SHAFTSBURY -- Virginia M. Jotikasthira, 84 a resident of Eleanor’s Way, died peacefully on Thursday morning Dec. 20,2007, at Bennington Health and Rehabilitation Center where she had resided the past few days.

Mrs. Jotikasthira was born in Bennington at the former Putnam Memorial Hospital (now Southwestern Vermont Medical Center) on Nov. 2, 1923, she was the daughter of the late William Henry and Anna Mae (Gorges) Hill. She grew up in Bennington and was a 1941 graduate of Benn Hi, she continued her education at the former St. Joseph’s Business College (now Southern Vermont College).

She had worked for the United States Foreign Service which required her travel extensively throughout the world and live abroad, she met her husband Chewn Jotikasthira in Thailand, they were married in Bangkok on Nov. 16,1957, he passed away in January 2002.

They had resided in England for 11 years where their daughter Ann was born. They moved to Shaftsbury in 1975.

Mrs. Jotikasthira was very creative and enjoyed gardening, sewing, painting, crafts and writing, she loved animals, people and plants.

She leaves her daughter and son in law Ann and Terrance R. Novicki of Poughkeepsie, N.Y., a sister Florence Colliano of Pownal, many loving friends and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her husband she was predeceased by her sisters Betty Sharpe and Nancy G. Hill and a brother William H. Hill.

Graveside funeral services will be held at the family lot in Center Shaftsbury Cemetery on Saturday, Dec. 22, at 1pm. Following the service the family will have a time of fellowship and refreshment at the First United Methodist Church in Shaftsbury, all are welcome.
