1925 - 2015 BENNINGTON Mrs. Virginia McLaughlin, 89, widow of James T. McLaughlin, Sr., a resident of New Haven, CT died Friday, April 17, 2015 at Yale New Haven Medical Center in New Haven, CT. Born in Bennington on November 22, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Harold & Delia (Devenow) Dockum. She received her education in Bennington and was a 1944 graduate of Bennington High School. Mr. & Mrs. McLaughlin were married in Bennington May 16, 1945 at St. Francis de Sales Church. Mr. McLaughlin died February 12, 2003. In earlier years Mrs. McLaughlin was employed at New England Telephone and at BenMont Paper Company in Bennington. Later she was employed at A/P American Thread Company and as Supervisor of Payroll at Milford Hospital in Milford, CT. She enjoyed sewing, crafts, knitting, reading and playing golf. Survivors include three sons, James T. McLaughlin of Woodstock, VT, William H. McLaughlin of West Haven, CT and Sean M. McLaughlin of Branford, CT; seven granddaughters and 10 great-grandchildren, a sister, Pauline Morse of Bennington and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Mrs. McLaughlin was predeceased by two brothers, Thomas and Harold Dockum. FUNERAL NOTICE: At the request of Mrs. McLaughlin there will be no calling hours. The funeral will be held from Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church in Bennington on Monday, May 4, 2015 at 11 a.m. where the Liturgy of Christian Burial will be offered. Burial will take place in the family plot in White Chapel Cemetery. Should friends desire, contributions in memory of Mrs. McLaughlin may be made to the Vermont through the office of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main Street, Bennington, VT 05201.
