BENNINGTON -- Virginia M. Morris, 97, a resident of Knapp Drive in Bennington died on Monday evening, Jan. 8, 2007 at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington following a brief illness.

She was born in Metuchen, New Jersey on Oct. 8, 1909 and was the daughter of the late Walter R. and Ellona (Campbell) Mook. She received her education in New Jersey.

She is the widow of Norman Morris who died in 1981. Over the years, she had been the manager of the Darling Kelly Motel and the Catamount Motel both in Bennington. She also was employed at the Malachuk Jewelry Store in Metuchen, N.J.

In Bennington, she attended the First Baptist Church and was a Grey Lady at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center. She did counted cross stitch and was currently working on her 30 second piece. She enjoyed traveling to see her family members in various parts of the country.

Mrs. Morris is survived by one son and daughter-in-law; Harold and Nona Searles of Raleigh, NC, two daughters and one son-in-law; Nancy and Nicholas Kokoras of Bennington and Katherine Davis of Windham, N.Y.

Also she is survived by one brother and sister-in-law; Reverend Telford and Jane Day Mook of Bethul, Mich. and her three sisters; Marion Coyne of Center Valley, PA, Lois Rich of Allentown, PA, and Ellona Alcorn of Florida. She leaves six grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Morris is predeceased by two brothers; Raymond Mook and Douglas Mook. One sister Frances Mook and one granddaughter.

A Memorial service will be held on Thursday afternoon, Jan. 11, at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home in Bennington at 2 p.m. with the Reverend Jerrod Hugenot, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Bennington, officiating. Interment will follow in the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery in Bennington. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 1 p.m. until the time of the service.

Memorial contributions for Mrs. Morris may be made to the Habitat for Humanity or the American Cancer Society, Vermont Chapter, through the Mahar and Son Funeral Home, 628 Main St. Bennington, VT 05201.
