Virginia Legacy Morse

1923-2013 Virginia Legacy Morse, daughter of Frank and Edith Beagle Legacy passed away on December 24th at the Centers For Living And Rehabilitation where she had resided for the last 15 months. Born February 12, 1923 in North Bennington, Vt, she graduated from North Bennington High School in 1946. She married Leonard G Morse on Bennington on June 29th 1946 in the North Bennington Baptist Church. After high school she entered St Luke's School of Nursing in Pittsfield, Massachusetts where she graduated as a registered nurse in 1944. For several years she nursed as a private duty nurse in private homes and at the Putnam Memorial Hospital. When the hospital formed its intensive care unit she joined the staff at Putnam. She worked there until her retirement in 1993. "Her cap and uniform were her pride and joy". After retirement she volunteered at the hospital for 5 years as well as at the Bennington Museum. Music was a great part of her life, learning to play the piano and accordion at an early age. She played at many amateur shows and programs. She and her husband enjoyed traveling to cities to see the big bands during that era. She continued to play her key board until the time of her death. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and was active on many committees throughout the years. Some of which include Circle One of the church, Bennington Business and Professional Women, AARP, Bennington Nurses Association and St Lukes Alumnae. After retirement she organized a monthly luncheon group of retired registered nurses. She is predeceased by her husband of 66 years who passed in October of 2012. She is survived by her son Keith and wife Peggy and their children, her sister Priscilla and Gerald Butler of Bennington and their children. And a special thanks to Dottie Bartlett and her husband Carl of Bennington. Thank you from Gin A memorial service will be held in the spring.
