Obituary Condolences

JACKSONVILLE -- Virginia Page Coombs, 79, of Jacksonville, died at Albany (N.Y.) Medical Center Hospital on Thursday, Dec. 28, 2006.

Born in Jacksonville, Virginia was the daughter of Carl and Edith Morse Page. Educated in local schools, she graduated from Whitingham High School at the head of her class in 1946.

For 42 years, she enjoyed her position as secretary/bookkeeper for E.J. Roberts and Son in Jacksonville. Her quiet, capable presence won awards for office management from General Motors, the respect of co-workers and customers alike, and friendships which lasted a lifetime. After retiring, she continued her secretarial/bookkeeping interests as secretary to the town of Whitingham and bookkeeper to Briggs Automotive in Jacksonville.

She had been active in the Grange and the Whitingham Historical Society.

Family meant a great deal to Virginia, and she was a devoted daughter, sister and aunt. She enjoyed gatherings for birthdays, Christmas, reunions, anniversaries and any other excuse which brought family together. Virginia took loving care of her mother until her death at age 98 in 2000.

Though experiencing physical challenges herself, Virginia was always a model of gentle patience and support, both physical and mental.

In 2001, Virginia married a longtime friend, Robert Coombs. With “Do something fun every day!” as their motto, she and Bob lived life to its fullest for five years. Together they traveled to 44 states, built a new home, and entertained friends and family endlessly. Bob died suddenly on Oct. 19, 2006, while they were vacationing in Tennessee.

Survivors include her sister, Kathleen Burnett of Knox, N.Y.; her nieces Zenith Burnett Gladieux and husband Russell, of Berne, N.Y., and Avis Burnett of Rexford, NY; her grandniece Nicole Gladieux and husband Daniel Richmond of Waynesboro, Pa; and great grandnephew Cal Richmond-Gladieux of Waynesboro, Pa.

Calling hours will be on Friday, Jan. 5, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Covey and Allen Funeral Home in Wilmington. The funeral will be held at the Jacksonville Community Church on Saturday, Jan. 6, at 11 a.m.

Following the funeral, relatives and friends are invited to join the immediate family for refreshments and fellowship in the Sunday School.

Contributions may be made to the Jacksonville Community Church or Whitingham Ambulance in care of Covey and Allen Funeral Home, P.O. Box 215, Wilmington, VT 05363.
