Vivian Beatrice Knapp

BENNINGTON -- Vivian Beatrice Knapp, 83, a resident of Branch Street, died on Saturday, Sept. 9, 2006, at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington.

She was born in Bennington on Dec. 6, 1922, and was the daughter of Albert and Lila (Betit) Caron. She received her education in Bennington schools. Vivian had married Larry Knapp in Bennington, and they had recently celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary. She had been employed at Union-Carbide (currently Eveready) in Bennington and had also been employed in the cafeteria at Shaftsbury Elementary School for several years.

Vivian enjoyed fishing, camping, hiking and cutting wood. She was a knitter and a gardener, an avid reader, enjoyed a good sense of humor and was a lucky gambler. The Knapps enjoyed traveling and have visited several states over the years. But her family was her greatest joy.

Mrs. Knapp was a member of the Arlington American Legion Post Auxiliary, the VFW Post Auxiliary in Bennington and the Eagles and Moose Lodges in Bennington. She is a communicant of Sacred Heart-St. Francis deSales Church in Bennington.

Survivors besides her husband include four sons, Francis P. Knapp, of Hoosick Falls, N.Y., Peter E. Knapp Sr., of Milford, N.H., Bruce P. Knapp, of Bennington, and Jeffrey J. Knapp, of Shaftsbury; two daughters, Rosemary Kinney, of Shaftsbury, and Helene Stratton, of Shaftsbury; one brother, Edward Caron, of Bennington, and by three sisters, Amelia Gallant, of White Creek, N.Y., Marion Goodhue, of Florida, and Katie Watts, of New Jersey. Vivian leaves her 13 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. She is predeceased by one brother, Albert Caron.

A prayer service will be held on Wednesday morning, Sept. 13, 2006, at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main St. in Bennington at 9:30 a.m., followed by a Mass of resurrection at Sacred Heart-St. Francis deSales Church, Main Street, at 10 a.m.

Interment will follow in Park Lawn Cemetery in Bennington.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday afternoon, Sept. 12, from 4 to 7 p.m.
