HINSDALE, Mass. -- Vivian G. Thurber Sanderson, 78, of Maple Street, died Sunday at Berkshire Medical Center.

Born May 15, 1926 in Bennington, Vt., the daughter of Ralph and Abbie Irene Burgess Thurber, she was a 1944 graduate of Bennington High School in Bennington and was a 1947 graduate of the Bishop Memorial Nursing School.

Mrs. Sanderson has been in training for the Army Nurse Corps but was never called upon for active duty.

She had been employed as a registered nurse at the former Pittsfield General Hospital where she worked in the maternity unit, and later as a school nurse at the Kittridge Elementary school.

Mrs. Sanderson had been a member of the First Congregational Church of Hinsdale.

She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, she enjoyed painting, shopping and square dancing.

She leaves her husband, Norman A. Sanderson, whom she married Aug. 28, 1947; her children, Dawn Frissell of Hinsdale, Gay Calo of Medfield, Hope Burgess of Lee, Faith Scofield of Hinsdale, James Sanderson of Lanesboro, and Norman T. Sanderson of Pittsfield; two brothers, Glen Thurber of Long Island, N.Y. and Richmond Thurber of Bennington.; also many nieces and nephews. A brother, Ralph Thurber, predeceased her, 14 grandchildren, one great-grandson, a daughter-in-law and three sons-in-law.

Funeral services for Mrs. Vivian G. Sanderson will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at the First Congregational Church of Dalton with the Rev. Robert Kyte, pastor, officiating.

Burial will follow in the Maple Street Cemetery in Hinsdale. Calling hours will be Wednesday at the Bartlett-Wellington Funeral Home from 4 to 7 p.m.
