NORTH POWNAL -- Wallace Raymond Hurley, 53, a resident of Route 346, died on Friday evening, Jan. 9, 2004 at the Bennington Health and Rehabilitation Center, following a long illness. He was born in North Pownal on Jan. 19, 1950 and was the son of the late Clarence Hurley and Laura (Woodard) Hurley, who survives. He had received his education in local schools, and had been a construction worker in the area for many years. He was a member of the St. Stanislaw Society in Hoosick Falls, N.Y.

Mr. Hurley enjoyed following stock car racing, especially NASCAR. He fished, hunted and played cards and loved playing cribbage. Besides his mother of North Pownal, he is survived by five brothers, Clarence Hurley of North Hebron, N.Y., Henry “Hank” Hurley of Hoosick Falls, James Alexander Hurley of North Pownal, Robert Hurley of Cambridge, N.Y. and Ralph Hurley of North Pownal; one sister, Edna Bentley of North Pownal and one uncle John Woodard of Greenwich, N.Y.; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday evening, Jan. 13, 2004 at 7 p.m. at the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home, 213 W. Main St., with the Rev. Gaylord Campbell, officiating. Interment will take place in the spring. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 5 p.m. until the time of the service. Memorials in his honor may be made to the American Diabetes Association, Vermont affiliate, through the care of the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home, P. O. Box 957, Bennington, VT 05201.
