POWNAL -- Walter Benjamin Seitz, 72, a resident of Barber Pond Road, died Monday evening, Aug. 16, 2004, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in White River Junction following a long illness.

Mr. Seitz was born in Mina, Nev. on Dec. 11, 1931. He was the son of William B. and Ellen (Felton) Seitz. A graduate of Alturas (Calif.) High School, he continued his education at Colorado State College (now the University of Colorado) where he majored in education; he continued with his post-graduate work at Boston College.

Mr. Seitz was a United States Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was first married to the former Marie Folker, who died in June 1993; he then married Marilyn Bostwick on April 19, 1994 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Bennington.

Mr. Seitz had taught high school mathematics throughout his more-than-40-year career, retiring from Mt. Greylock Regional High School in 1989. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Bennington. He enjoyed swimming, working with his tools, camping and traveling.

He leaves his wife Marilyn Seitz of Pownal; his daughters Barbara Kenner of Cadott, Wisc. and Jennifer Patten of Cary, N.C.; his grandchildren Nicole Smith, Warren King and Dennis Patten Jr. and a great-granddaughter, Jeana Smith. Funeral services will be held on Friday, Aug. 20, at 10 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Bennington, burial with committal prayers will follow in the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery. A gathering will follow the committal services at the family home in Pownal. Friends may call at the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home on Thursday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. when the family will be present. Should friends desire gifts in memory of Mr. Seitz may be made to either the Pownal Rescue Squad or Vermont Affiliate of the American Heart Association in care of the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home, 213 West Main St., Bennington, VT 05201.
