1953 - 2015 POWNAL Wayne J. Idema, 61, a resident of Niles School Road, died unexpectedly on Sunday, April 26, 2015 at his residence. Born in Beacon, NY on December 1, 1953, he was the son of the late Nicholas and Evelyn (Lietki) Idema. He received his education in the Beacon schools. Wayne married the former Catherine Caparco in North Bennington on July 7, 1990. At the time of his death Wayne had been employed for the last 24 years at NSK Steering Systems in Bennington. In earlier years Wayne had been a member of the Chelsea, NY Fire Department. Wayne was an avid fisherman and a devout fan of the Buffalo Bills and NASCAR. He enjoyed gardening, horseshoes and darts. Survivors include his wife, Catherine Idema of Pownal, two daughters and sons-in-law, Amy and Joel Oneto of Newburgh, NY and Jamie and Matthew Picard of Chicopee, MA; seven grandchildren, Nicholas, Kaylee, Jason, Samantha, Spencer, Madalynn and Evan; a brother and sister-in-law, Gary and Sharon Idema of Fishkill, NY; a sister-in-law, Mary Frost of North Bennington, a brother-in-law, Antimo Caparco and his wife, Joyce of Forestville, NY and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Wayne was predeceased by a brother-in-law, Clenn Frost. SERVICES: Friends are invited to pay their respects to the family on Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home from 2 to 4 p.m. when the family will be in attendance. A celebration of Wayne's life will follow at the Bennington Elks Lodge on Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. Burial will take place in the family lot in Grandview Cemetery, North Bennington. Should friends desire, memorial donations in Wayne J. Idema's memory may be made to either the Vermont or Second Chance Animal Shelter through the office of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main Street, Bennington, VT 05201.
