Wendall R. Cram Obituary
Manchester - Wendall R."Wendy" Cram, 96 years of age. Born in Bridgewater, VT January 15, 1921, Wendy was the son of the late Albert and Winifred (Young) Cram. He was a graduate of Woodstock High School and Norwich University. During World War II, Wendy served in the U. S. Army with the 10th Mountain Division.

Wendy was employed in the summer for 34 years as head groundskeeper at the Palmer House and for over 35 years during the winter as a ski instructor at Stratton until the time of his retirement. Prior to his jobs at the Palmer House and Stratton, he was known throughout the community as an avid cyclist and the proprietor of Wendy's Ski Shop in Manchester. Wendy helped many young people get their start as skiers and cyclists by fitting them with the proper equipment and instilling an interest which followed many into adulthood.

A very active member of the Manchester community and an accomplished athlete, Wendy had served as president of the Manchester Chamber of Commerce, President of the Yankee Peddlers, the first bicycle club in Vermont, and was a life member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and Veterans of Foreign War.

An avid skier, Wendy served as a ski instructor at Stratton Mountain for 33 years. He was also a member of the U.S. Olympic Ski Team in 1940 and a member of the Vermont Skiing Hall of Fame in Stowe. Wendy was also a life member of the Professional Ski Instructors of America. In addition to skiing and bicycling, Wendy enjoyed hiking, travelling, and fine wines.

Survivors include nieces Paula Cram Arriaga of Black Mountain NC, Vicki Cram of Asheville NC, Heidi (Stan) Kaufman of Fort Lauderdale FL, Lisa (Steven) Hutchins of Old Fort NC, Sheila (Ernie) Hooker of Howesdale PA and two nephews Christopher Cram of Keene NH and Alan (Jean) Cram of Green Valley AZ. He also leaves behind his special friend, Joe Charbonneau. Wendy was predeceased in 2005 by his brother Earl, and in 2015 by his brother Vernon.
