Obituary Condolences

NORTH BENNINGTON -- Wesley E. Green, 92, of Mattison Road, died Wednesday evening, Jan. 5, 2005, at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington.

He was born in Shaftsbury on Nov. 15, 1912, the son of George E. and Carolyn (Buss) Green, and attended local schools. He was employed as a plumber for Bennington College for 35 years until retirement.

Mr. Green was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, achieving the rank of technical seargent and serving with topographic engineers.

He loved hunting and fishing and was very active in the Shaftsbury Rod and Gun Club as a charter member and was involved building the club. Wesley could accomplish anything technical and loved tinkering in his workshop. He built soapbox derby cars for many years when racing was active in North Bennington. He loved spending time at his home and cherished times spent with his family.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, the former Helen Hosford, whom he married on July 5, 1938 in Barton; two daughters, Ann Ryan and her husband John of Bennington and Nancy Lord of Westerville, Ohio; four grandchildren, Amy Sullivan and her husband Steven, Herbert Knapp and his wife Madeline, Connie Knapp and her companion Bernadette Romano and Karen Dean; and four great-grandchildren, Lauren and Amanda Sullivan and Wesley and Sara Knapp.

Funeral services for Mr. Green will be held Saturday, Jan. 8, 2005, at 2 p.m. at Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home, 213 West Main St., Bennington VT. Visitation will be held at 1 p.m. until the time of the service. The Rev. Penny Rich Smith of North Bennington Congregational Church will conduct the service. Committal services will follow in Grandview Cemetery in North Bennington.
