Whitney Halligan Obituary
Whitney Halligan

1959-2013 Whitney Halligan, 53, passed away at home on January 20, 2013 after a long battle with mantle cell lymphoma.

She was born on September 6, 1959 at Scott Air Force Base in St. Clair County, Illinois. Whitney attended high school in Ridgewood, New Jersey and went on to double major in Cinematography and American History at the University of Southern California. After college, Whitney returned to the East Coast, where she began a successful career as an executive chef in the Boston area. When working in Boston, she met her future husband David, and they were married in 1990.

Whitney and David moved to Vermont shortly after getting married, and they started their large family in 1991. When her children were young, Whitney was actively involved with the Zion Preschool and served as board president. She also continued her career as a chef in various capacities, and many will especially remember her presence as one of the leaders of the school lunch program at Manchester Elementary Middle School in 2005 and 2006. Whitney was a strong supporter of education, and donated much of her time to both MEMS and Burr and Burton Academy, where all five of her children attended high school.

Whitney will be fondly remembered, both for her passionate spirit and for the strength she passed down to her five beautiful children. She is survived by her husband David, and her children Campbell, Devin, Colby, Kieran, and Rory. She is also survived by her mother Happy Vansickle, stepfather David Vansickle, and her brothers Bill, Brad, and Brian, as well as their respective families.
