BENNINGTON -- A service to remember the life of Wilbur E. “Bill” Pember was held at the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home on Friday afternoon. Officiating was the Rev. Deborah Estey, pastor of the First United Methodist Church of Bennington. The Rev. Estey reflected upon Mr. Pember’s extensive involvement with baseball, his concern of his country by being politically active, belief in God and his connection to the youth of the area. Personal reflections and memories were shared by longtime friend Robert Long who shared that Mr. Pember’s three loves were the Republican Party, baseball and his dog Pirate. Special musical selections included “Amazing Grace,” “In The Garden” and “The Old Rugged Cross.” Burial followed in the Pember family lot in Wells Cemetery.

Mr. Pember, 89, a resident of Emma Street, died Monday afternoon at his home following a long illness.

Arrangements were under the care of the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home, 213 West Main St., Bennington.
