HOOSICK FALLS, N.Y. -- Wilfred Bissonette, 79, died Monday at the Centers for Living and Rehabilitation in Bennington, Vt. He resided on Dolan Avenue in Hoosick Falls with his wife Alyce (Gannon) Bissonette.

He was born Sept. 15, 1923 in Hoosick Falls, son of the late Wilfred and Albena (Shartrand) Bissonette. He was educated at schools in Hoosick Falls and was a veteran of the United States Marine Corp. Wilfred served from 1942 to 1946 in the Pacific Arena and was honorably discharged. He worked as a truck driver for Holmes Transportation in Bennington, Vt. until retiring. He was a member of the Teamsters local #597 in Barre, Vt. and the American Legion Post #40 in Hoosick Falls.

Survivors other than his wife Alyce, include a daughter, Leah Bissonette of San Diego, Calif.; a son, Eric Bissonette and his wife Dawn of Cambridge; a step-daughter, Roberta (Albergine) McEvoy and her husband Michael of Greenwich; a brother, Donald Bissonette of Hoosick Falls; also survived by several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by a sister, Marion Carr, and brothers Raymond and Robert Bissonette.

Funeral service will be Thursday Aug. 7, at 10 a.m. from the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main St. in Hoosick Falls. Burial will follow the service at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Hoosick Falls.

Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to either the cardiac unit at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center or the Town of Hoosick Rescue Squad through the funeral home.
