William A. Sempier BENNINGTON William A. Sempier, 79, a resident of Bennington, passed away peacefully with his wife at his side on Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2009. Born in Nutley, N.J., on May 12, son of the late William and Elsie Deeks Sempier. Bill received his early education in the Nutley schools and received two undergraduate degrees in music, along with his Masters in Music from Montclair State University. Bill married Janet on April 12, 1980, in Cedar Grove, N.J. For over 20 years Bill served as a music teacher in the Caldwell, N.J., public schools. He later became an Adjunct Professor of Music at Seton Hall University and served as Minister of Music at Van Riper Ellis Broadway Baptist Church in Fairlawn, N.J. A lover of music his entire life, Bill served for many years as the Director of the Concert Chorale in Caldwell and was also involved with many other choral groups over the years. Bill and Janet moved to Vermont from their home in Verona, NJ in 2007. Shortly after moving to Bennington they became members of the First Congregational Church of Bennington. Bill will be remembered by his wife Janet, son William and daughter-in-law Dawn, two grandsons, Joshua and Zachary of Parsippany, N.J.; his daughter, Bonnie Jean of South Carolina; a brother and sister-in-law, his brother Burt and sister-in-law Jean Sempier of North Caldwell, N.J.; many nieces, nephews and cousins. FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral will be held from the MAHAR & SON FUNERAL Saturday, Jan. 17, 2009 at 5 p.m. with the Rev. Robin Greene, pastor of the First Congregational Church officiating.
