1952 - 2015 BENNINGTON William J. Berard, 63, a resident of Bennington passed away unexpectedly while camping in New Hampshire on July 30, 2015. Bill was born in Bennington March 12, 1952. He was the son of the late William F. Berard and Virginia (Stratton) Berard who survives. Bill attended Sacred Heart School and Bennington Catholic High School. He was a United States Navy veteran serving during the Vietnam era aboard the USS Wasp and USS Forestal. Bill was a longtime employee of the Bennington Banner and recently retired from the Pennysaver Press. He enjoyed spending time with his family, going to Sucker Pond and riding around in his jeep. Survivors include a son, William James Berard II, a granddaughter, Chloe Jade Cave Berard both of Bennington and a grandson, Christian James Belisle Berard of Rochester, NY; his wife, Charleene Tornabene of Pownal, VT; his brothers and sisters, Steve Berard and his wife, Dawn of St. Johnsbury, VT, Jean Berard of Bennington, Susie Sanders and her husband, Roy of MS, Tom Berard and his wife, Bonnie of Bennington, Esther McGarvin of Bennington, Mike Berard and his wife, Kim of Bennington, Debbie Berard of Bennington and Becky Legacy and her husband, Shawn of Shaftsbury, his former wife, Maggie Brady of Bennington; along with several aunts and uncles and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a daughter, Kristin Mary Berard, a sister, Cathy Massey and a brother, Joe Berard. FUNERAL NOTICE: Friends may call at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home on Monday, August 3, 2015 from 1 to 3 p.m. A memorial service to celebrate Bill's life will be held at the funeral home on Monday at 3 p.m. If friends desire contributions in memory of William J. Berard may be made to the Vermont Heart Association or Ones Favorite Charity through the office of the Mahar and Son Funeral Home, 628 Main St., Bennington, VT 05201.
