William E. Briggs, Sr. 1963-2011 BENNINGTON, VT. William E. Briggs, Sr., 47, a resident of North Street in Bennington, passed away Tuesday February 22, 2011 at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington surrounded by his family. William was born in North Adams, Mass., on June 13, 1963 the son of Edward E. Briggs, Sr. and Martha Harris and attended local schools. William was a jack of all trades. He worked as a house painter and painted the Equinox Hotel during the 1980's and also ran the Bennington Bagel Shop for many years. William was a former member of the Boy Scouts of America and was a member of the Shell Station Coffee Club. He loved the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. He enjoyed attending dirt races and drag races at Lebanon Valley Speedway and cherished times spent with his family and friends. William is survived by his wife, the former Sue Willette of Bennington, his sons, William E. Briggs, Jr. and Mathew Briggs of Bennington, his daughters Kacey Poitras and her spouse Cynthia of Bennington and Catherine and Erica Corey both of Virginia, his brother Edward Briggs, Jr. and his wife Tiffany of Pownal, his sister Ellen Davis and her husband John of New Lebanon, N.Y., his granddaughter Kassidy and many nieces nephews and cousins. FUNERAL NOTICE: A celebration of the life of William E. Briggs, Sr. will be held Monday February 28, 2011 at 5 p.m., at Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home 213 West Main Street Bennington, Vermont. Interment will be private. Visiting hours at the funeral home will be held Monday February 28, 2011 from 4 to 5 p.m., one hour prior to the service when the family will be in attendance.
