William Burns 1925-2009 HOOSICK FALLS, N.Y. William Burns, 84, passed away at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center Friday, October 2, 2009. He resided on Church Street in Hoosick Falls and was the husband of the late Rita Mathers Burns. Bill was born Sept. 26, 1925 in Hoosick Falls, N.Y., son of the late Edward and Madeline Ford Burns. He was educated at St. Mary's Academy in Hoosick Falls as well as Siena College. Bill was a veteran of the Navy, serving during World War II. He received the American Theater Medal, Asiatic Pacific Medal 3 Star and the Victory Medal. He worked as an insurance agent for Prudential in Hoosick Falls for 28 years. He was a member of the American Legion Post 40 as well ast V.F.W. in Hoosick Falls. He and his wife enjoyed vacationing in Saint Augustine, Florida in their earlier years where he enjoyed golfing with friends. Survivors include his daughter, Barbara Ann Marsh, of El Paso, Texas and his son, Michael Edward Burns, of Highland Park, Ill. He is also survived by a sister, Helene Murray, of Niskayuna, N.Y.; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services will be Wednesday, Oct. 7, at 8:45 a.m. from the MAHAR FUNERAL HOME, 43 Main Street in Hoosick Falls. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9:30 a.m. from the Immaculate Conception Church on Main Street in Hoosick Falls. Burial will follow the mass at St. Mary's Cemetery in Hoosick Falls. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday, Oct. 6 from 5 to 7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Centers for Living and Rehabilitation through the funeral home.
