HOOSICK FALLS, N.Y. -- William H. “Coonie” Coonradt Jr., 80, died Thursday, Jan. 18, 2007, at the Albany Medical Center. He resided on Carey Avenue in Hoosick Falls with his wife Gladys (Motsiff) Coonradt. They were married on Oct. 20, 1951.

William was born on June 10, 1926, in Bridgeport, Conn., the son of William H. Coonradt Sr. and Ida L. Wallace. Coonie was educated at Hoosick Falls High School and was a veteran of the Navy, serving during World War II. He was employed at the former Wood Flong Co. and later Lydall, retiring several years ago. Coonie was a member of VFW Post 8417, where he served as the quarter master, American Legion Post 40 and the Derby Club, all in Hoosick Falls.

Survivors other than his wife Gladys include two daughters, Deborah Lee Drake and her husband, Daniel, of Hoosick Falls and Bette Ann Smith and her husband, Walter, of Petersburgh; four grandchildren, Darci Jones, Dwayne Drake, Stacy Callahan and Edward Cottrell; his great-granddaughter, Terrie Cottrell, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three sisters, Dorothy Cox, Mildred Edwards and Edith Burkes, and a brother, Richard Coonradt.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the committal service to be held on Tuesday, Jan. 23, at 1 p.m. at the Gerald B.H. Solomon-Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main St., in Hoosick Falls. There will be no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to the Group Work Camps 2007, through the funeral home. This fund will help our community by bringing youth to our area to do home repairs.
