NORTH PETERSBURGH, N.Y. -- William Edward Jones, 75, a resident of William Jones Road, North Petersburgh, died Tuesday, June 1, 2004 at the Albany Medical Center following a brief illness.

Born in North Petersburgh Aug. 27, 1928, he was the son of the late William Washington and Ella Mae (Bickford) Jones. He received his early education in the Petersburgh schools and was a 1946 graduate of Hoosick Falls High School.

Mr. Jones was a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Korean conflict. He entered the Army on Sept. 10, 1953 and was discharged June 16, 1955. During that time he served with Headquarters Company Medical Battalion, 11th Airborne Division and also with the Far East Command in Japan. Following his discharge Mr. Jones returned to the family farm where he worked from 1955 until 1962. He than was employed at Vermont Container, Pownal Tannery, Jard Company and General Cable Company in Williamstown where he retired in 1992.

He married the former Helen L. Bisson May 27, 1961 at St. Francis de Sales Church in Bennington.

Mr. Jones enjoyed farming, hunting, logging and playing horseshoes.

Survivors include his wife, Helen L. Jones of North Petersburgh; two daughters, Terry Michaels of Hoosick and Cindy Ploof of North Petersburgh; four grandchildren, Lynda Gardner of Albany, Andrew Gardner of Hoosick Falls, Jason and Shannon Michaels, both of Hoosick; three sisters, Rachel Bartlett of Bennington, Vt., Corina Bakatis of Hoosick Falls and Joyce Appel of Hoosick; two brothers, Arthur Jones of Oklahoma and Allan Jones of Kansas; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Mr. Jones was predeceased by two brothers, Forrest and Harold Jones.

At Mr. Jones request there will be no funeral services held.

Private committal services will take place at the North Pownal Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations in Mr. William E. Jones memory be made to the North Petersburgh Methodist Church through the office of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main St., Bennington, VT 05201.
