William Edward Kelley, Sr. 1924 - 2008 NORTH BENNINGTON William Edward Kelley, Sr., 84, of Harvest Hills Drive died unexpectedly at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington on Sunday evening, Dec. 14, 2008. Born in Hartford, Conn., on Feb. 1, 1924, son of Edward W. and Lillian Cotter Kelley, William received his education in Hartford Schools. William served with the Coast Guard during World War II. William had been a truck driver all of his career. A member of the Teamsters Union, he retired from the former Fairbanks Trucking Company. Following his retirement, he continued to drive on occasion for CLS Transportation of Hoosick Falls, N.Y. William was a member of the American Legion Post #13 of Bennington, and the Sergeant of Arms with Disabled American Veterans. He was an honorary member and past Chief of the Shaftsbury Fire Department after serving 47 years. An avid golfer, he loved his time in Florida. He married the former Grace Snow, and later married the former Genevieve Bartlett on July 12, 1958, in North Bennington. The couple celebrated their 50th anniversary this summer. Besides his wife, he leaves by two sons, Robert Augeri and wife Patricia, of Middletown, Conn., and William E. Kelley Jr. and wife Patricia, of Manchester; three daughters, Patricia, and husband John Marechal, of Venice, Fla., Gloria and husband, Stanley Duszak, of Cromwell, Conn., and Linda Kelley of Osteen, Fla.; 16 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. FUNERAL NOTICE: A Prayer Service will be held Friday, Dec. 19, at the MAHAR and SON FUNERAL HOME, 628 Main St., Bennington, at 9:15 a.m., followed by a Mass of Resurrection at St. John The Baptist Church in North Bennington at 1O. Interment will follow in the family lot in St. John's Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. Members of the Shaftsbury Fire Department are asked to meet at the funeral home at 6:30 p.m. to pay their respects. Members of the American Legion Post #13 of Bennington are asked to meet at the funeral home at 6:45 p.m. and members of the DAV are asked to meet at the funeral home at 7:15 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Shaftsbury Fire Department through the Mahar and Son Funeral Home, 628 Main St. Bennington , VT 05201 Guestbook condolences may be made at www. maharandsonfuneralhome.net
