Obituary Condolences

BENNINGTON -- Funeral services for William G. McLaughlin of Bennington were held on Saturday morning at the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home in Bennington with the Rev. Robert Lebert and Rev. Linda Lebert of Harvest Christian Ministries, in Bennington, officiating. Rev. Linda Lebert offered poetry titled “He Walks Ahead” and We’ll Never Say Good-bye.” During a time of sharing, personal remembrances were offered by Mr. McLaughlin’s sister Candace Johnson and Joe Candal. Special music for the service included “One More Day,” “The Old Rugged Cross” and “Amazing Grace.”

Bagpiper John Gometz offered a musical tribute as Mr. McLaughlin was carried from the funeral home and to his final resting place at Park Lawn Cemetery.

The committal service at Park Lawn Cemetery was offered by the Rev. Robert and Linda Lebert. Rev. Linda Lebert recited a poem titled “If You Could See Me Now” and Mr. McLaughlin’s daughter Catherine Elliott offered words of tribute during the committal. Military honors were accorded Mr. McLaughlin by Ralph Brown and Joseph Krawczyk representing American Legion Post 13 in Bennington. The American flag was folded by Brown and Krawczyk and presented to Mr. McLaughlin’s son, Scott A. McLaughlin by Mr. Brown. Taps were sounded by Harwood Strobeck. Serving as pallbearers were Mr. McLaughlin’s grandsons Ryan Elliott, Andrew Elliott and Billy McLaughlin; grandsons-in-law Jeremy Granger and Christopher Bivins and Jerry Elliott.

Attending calling hours at the funeral home on Friday evening were a number of co-workers of Catherine Elliott and Billy McLaughlin from Bennington Subaru.

Mr. McLaughlin, a resident of South Street in Bennington and U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict, died on Wednesday at the Vermont Veterans Home in Bennington at the age of 65. In addition to those places of employment listed in Mr. McLaughlin’s obituary, he had also worked as a security guard at Stanley Tools in Shaftsbury and as a flight line person at Air Now in Bennington.

Service arrangements were under the care of the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home in Bennington.
