Obituary Condolences

BENNINGTON -- William G. Pallo, 82, a resident of Blackberry Lane, Bennington, died Saturday, Oct. 27, 2007, at the Vermont Veterans Home in Bennington following a long illness.

He was born in Garfield, N.J., June 3, 1925. He was the son of the late Stephan and Rose (Speigel) Pallo. He received his education in Clifton, N.J., and was a graduate of Clifton High School. He later attended and graduated from Upsala College in New Jersey.

A World War II veteran, Bill served in the U.S. Air Force 8th Division of England and had flown 25 missions over Germany as a belly gunner.

He married the former Evelyn “Dolly” (Semon) on Feb. 3, 1951, at Saint Brendan’s Catholic Church in Clifton, N.J.

For 36 years Bill was a teacher in Clifton, N.J., where he taught grammar, middle and high school. Bill taught psychology at Clifton High where he also coached the ski team. An avid skier, Bill was a ski instructor at Hunter Mountain in New York.

He was a member of the VFW Post 1332, the Bennington Lodge of Elks, the Knights Columbus Council 307 and Sacred Heart Saint Francis de Sales Church. Bill enjoyed playing golf, traveling and was an avid sports fan.

Survivors include his wife Evelyn “Dolly” Pallo of Bennington; a daughter Nancy Nash and her husband Dr. Bruce Nash of Shaftsbury; two sons, Captain United States Army Reserve William C. Pallo and his wife, Rena, of Bennington, and Steven Pallo and his wife, Christine, of Pompton Lakes, N.J.; two grandchildren, Kerstin and Heidi Pallo of Pompton Lakes, N.J. He was predeceased by a brother, Stephen Pallo.

A Mass of Thanksgiving for the Life of William G. Pallo will be held from Sacred Heart Saint Francis de Sales Church on Wednesday Oct. 31, 2007, at 10 a.m.

The Mass of Resurrection will be held from Our Lady of the Magnificat Catholic Church in Kinnelon, N.J., on Saturday, Nov. 3, 2007, at noon. The burial with military honors will follow in the family lot in Our Lady of the Magnificat Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers contributions in memory of William G. Pallo may be made to the Vermont Veterans Home through the office of the Mahar and Son Funeral Home, 628 Main Street Bennington, VT 05201.
