William Hartington

1925-2010 BENNINGTON William Fisher Hartington, 84, a resident of Knoll Crest Lane in Bennington, passed away Thursday, Jan. 7, 2010, at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center surrounded by his family.

Born in Bennington on Aug. 19, 1925, son of Herbert and Wilhelmina Fisher Hartington, he received his education in Bennington schools, graduating from Bennington High School and Bentley College.

William worked as an accountant and financial controller for many years. He was a Army veteran of WWII and a former member of the First Congregational Church in Old Bennington. William was very accomplished at building model wooden boats as a hobby and enjoyed flower gardening.

William leaves his son, Burt Hartington, and his wife, Maria, of Naples, Fla.; his sister, Jane Faytle, and his grandson, Jay Hartington, of Naples. He predeceased his wife, the former Priscilla Dyer, who died Feb. 15, 1997.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Graveside funeral services with military honors for William will be held Monday, Jan. 11, 2010, at 10 a.m. in the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery in Bennington. Rev. Kenneth Clark of the First Congregational Church in Old Bennington will conduct the service. There are no visiting hours.
