William "Wade" Hayden

1932 - 2014 HOOSICK FALLS, N.Y. On Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2014, William "Wade" Hayden, 81, was called to Heaven. He was a native of Hoosick Falls, born on June 27, 1932, and the son of John Joseph and Eleanor Wade Hayden. Wade was a graduate of St. Mary's Academy (1950), and SUNY Cobleskill (1956). He went on to serve his country during the Korean War, 1951-53, as a Private First Class in the United States Army. On Aug. 20, 1955, he married his beloved wife and companion Sandra J. Curtice. Best known to comrades, friends, and family as Wade, Wade-O, Pop or Poppy, he worked for 37 years with Niagara Mohawk Power Company. He also owned a small farm on the outskirts of South Cambridge, N.Y., on which he worked diligently for most of his life. He was a founding member of the Spike Horn Hunting Club of North River, N.Y., and enjoyed hunting in the beautiful Adirondack Mountains. He was an active member of the American Legion, Post 634. Wade was a charter member of the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery Honor Guard Association which was formed in July 1999. Wade has been the squad leader of the Thursday burials since the formation of the Honor Guard Association. His patriotism and love for his country was undying and remained the core of his character. He was a loved and respected part of the community and will be missed by all who knew him, and most of all, by his large and loving family. He is survived by his wife, Sandra J. Hayden, of South Cambridge; brothers, Robert Hayden of Florida, Richard Hayden of New York, N.Y., and Donald Hayden of Hoosick Falls; his four children, Margaret (Scott) Rogers, of Easton, Norman Hayden (Andrea Eaves) of Queensbury, Bridget (David) Bromirski of Cambridge, and Mary Hayden-Cook (Aaron Cook) of Johnsonville. His most treasured gift of all, his 10 grandchildren, Joshua and Zachary Wilcox, Alyssa (Nicholas) O'Brien, Adam Hayden (fiance-Lisa McConnell), and Kaitlyn Hayden, Shea, Amelia, and William Bromirski, Hayden and Reilly Cook, and his two great-grandchildren, Kinley O'Brien, and Rylie Hayden Broe. Lastly, he is loved and missed by his faithful English Springer Spaniel, Abigail. He was predeceased, by his father, John Joseph, and mother Eleanor Hayden, by his sister, Eleanore Hayden, and by his brother, Joseph Hayden. FUNERAL NOTICE: Per his wishes, there will be no immediate services. The arrangements are being coordinated through MAHAR FUNERAL HOME, 43 Main St., Hoosick Falls, NY 12090. A memorial service will be held at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in the summer.
