William J. French 1924-2008 PETERSBURGH, N.Y. William J. French 83, died Thursday May 15 at the Vermont Veterans Home in Bennington, Vermont. He resided at Woodbridge Heights in Hoosick Falls with his wife Lei-Lani Rice French. Born on Dec. 31, 1924 in Hoosick Falls, N.Y., son of the late Harry and Helen Luskin French, Bill received his G.E.D. while serving in the Army. He attained the rank of E5 Staff Sergeant and served in World War II, Korean Conflict and Vietnam. He retired from the Army after serving for 25 years. Bill was a member of the V.F.W. and the Senior Citizens both in Hoosick Falls. He served on the Town of Hoosick Rescue Squad for 16 years and with the civilian conservation corps. He was a communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church in Hoosick Falls. He loved to travel with his wife Lei-Lani. Other than his wife, he leaves three stepsons, Allen Haley of Burlington, N.C., James Haley of Pownal, and Walt Callahan of Hoosick Falls, N.Y.; his sister, Louise Conway of North Hoosick, N.Y. Also survived by many grandchildren and several great- grandchildren. Bill was predeceased by a sister, Agnes Marcoux, and a brother, Henry French. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services will be Monday at 9 a.m. from the MAHAR FUNERAL HOME, 43 Main Street in Hoosick Falls. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9:30 a.m. from the Immaculate Conception Church on Main Street in Hoosick Falls. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 4 to 8:00 p.m.. Memorial contributions may be made to either the or the Heart Fund through the funeral home.
