HOOSICK FALLS, N.Y. -- William J. Shiland 84, died Wednesday, March 21 at his residence on Second Street in Hoosick Falls. He resided there with his wife of 58 years Alice (Hayden) Shiland.

William was born on March 23, 1922, in Cambridge, son of the late Stanley and Helen (Dwyer) Shiland. William graduated from Hoosick Falls High School. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving, in the Pacific Theater. He worked at tile Noble & Wood Co. as a machinist, then the Wood Flong Corporation and retired from Allied Signal all in Hoosick Falls.

William was a member of the VFW Post No. 8417 in Hoosick Falls. He enjoyed woodworking and working in his yard.

Survivors other than his wife Alice include his daughter, Elizabeth Keegan, and her husband, Gary; his son William J. Shiland Jr. and his wife, Lorraine, all of Hoosick Falls; a brother, Robert Shiland of Hoosick Falls; grandchildren Mary Utter, Christopher Keegan, Ruth Case, William J. Shiland III and Charles Shiland. He is also survived by five great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by a brother Harry Shiland.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial to be offered on Friday at 11 a.m. from the Immaculate Conception Church on Main Street in Hoosick Falls. Burial will follow the mass at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Hoosick Falls.

There will be no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to the Town of Hoosick Rescue Squad through the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street in Hoosick Falls who are handling the arrangements.
