William "Jake" Jacobsen 1928 - 2010 POWNAL, VT William "Jake" H. Jacobsen 82, a resident of Cozy Meadows Park, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday Nov. 10, 2010. He was born in Springfield, Mass., on Oct. 15, 1928, to Henry W. and Irene Hoffman Jacobsen. After receiving his education, he served in the Army during World War II. In his early years he worked at Ben Mont Paper Company in Bennington and Green Mountain Race Track as a teller; he then relocated to Colorado where he operated a pizza parlor. Upon returning to Vermont, he was employed at the Pownal Tanning Company, from which he retired. Jake was a former member of American Legion Post #90 in Pownal and a present member of American Legion Post #13 in Bennington. He enjoyed talking politics, working on his home, playing cards and was an avid coin collector. He leaves his two daughters, Linda Leonard of Pownal and Barbara Johnson of Bennington; two sons, William Jacobsen of Hoosick Falls, N.Y., and Kevin Jacobsen of Pownal; a brother, Robert Jacobsen of Schodack, N.Y.; his former wife, June Jacobsen of North Pownal, six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Joyce Jacobsen. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services will be held on Monday, Nov. 15, at 10 a.m. at the HANSON-WALBRIDGE FUNERAL HOME. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 9 until 10 a.m. Burial with full military honors will take place in the Gerald B. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville, N.Y., on Monday at 2 p.m. Memorial gifts may be made to the Pownal Rescue Squad in care of the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home, 213 West Main Street, Bennington, VT 05201.
