William A. Mason

1931-2012 William A. Mason, 80, a resident of Branch St. in Bennington died Monday September 24, 2012 at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington surrounded by his family and friends.

He was born in Dorset, Vt., September 26, 1931. He was the son of the late Elbridge and Louise (Cadorette) Mason. He received his education in the Sunderland schools.

Mr. Mason served in the United States Army as a Radar Repairman and Maintenance Technician from 1948 - 1969. He was assigned to several stateside locations as well as Greenland, Japan, Korea and Vietnam. Bill loved Vermont and returned to Vermont following his retirement from the Army.

He married the former Margaret Nelligan June 17, 1957 in Kennywick, Washington.

Bill was employed at Johnson Controls for over twenty years and retired from there.

Bill was a dedicated father and loved spending time with his family. He especially enjoyed cross country traveling, bowling, hunting, camping and fishing with his family. He was a member of the American Legion Post 13, Vietnam Veterans Association and was a friend of Bill W. for 23 years.

Survivors include his wife Margaret Mason of Bennington. A daughter, Louise and Glenn Mallory of Woodford, VT. Six sons, John and Ann of Paulsboro NJ, Patrick and Nancy of Bennington, VT, Edward and Rosanne of Melbourne, FL, Michael and Melanie of Arlington, Daniel and Melissa of Bennington, VT, and Robert and Cindy of Anchorage Alaska; Twenty one grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren. Two sisters Sonja Mason and Kathy Metcalfe and a brother James Mason. Several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was pre-deceased by a son James L. Mason who died Oct. 22, 1992.

FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral will be held from the Mahar and Son Funeral Home on Friday September 28, 2012 with a prayer at 10:30 a.m. and then from Sacred Heart Saint Francis de Sales Church at 11 a.m. where the Liturgy of Christian Death and Burial will be offered.

The burial with military honors will follow in the family lot at Park Lawn Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m.
