William James Mitton Jr.

1930 - 2015 POWNAL William (Bill) James Mitton, Jr. age 84, died on Sunday afternoon, September 6, 2015. He was born in Paterson, NJ on November 27, 1930 and was the son of the late William James, Sr. and Anna Jacyssin Mitton. He received his education in New Jersey and graduated high school in 1948. He proudly served in the Marine Corps during the Korean War Era. Following his military duty, he married Carolyn, his wife of 61 years, who survives him. Bill attended Newark College of Engineering. He started as an electrician's helper at Morrison Machine Company in New Jersey in 1948 and retired from the sales department at its successor Morrison-Berkshire in North Adams, after 50 years of service. The family moved from Totowa, NJ to Pownal, VT in 1986. Bill was a Boy Scout leader for 20 years, in all levels of Scouting. He enjoyed woodworking, camping, shooting sports, and gardening. He was a former stock car driver, and always maintained an interest in cars. Besides his wife, Carolyn, survivors include his son, Daniel Mitton, Sr. of Las Vegas, NV, and his daughter, Nancy Mitton of Pownal, VT and a nephew, Marinus Hook who resided with the family. William leaves two grandsons: Daniel Mitton, Jr. and Christopher Mitton, both of Illinois, also four great-grandchildren; Daniel, III, Lincoln, Mason and Morgan. His is also survived by sisters: AnnaMay Goldberg of Pequannock, NJ and Jean Hook of Wayne, NJ. He also leaves a niece, Lauren, and nephews, Joseph, David and Mark. He is predeceased by his brother, Jack Mitton. FUNERAL NOTICE: Friends may call at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home, 628 Main St., Bennington, VT on Thursday evening, September 10th, 2015 from 6 to 8p.m. Mr. Mitton will be transferred to Wayne, NJ where calling hours will take place on Friday evening, September 11, from 6 to 8p.m. at the Vander May Funeral Home, 567 Ratzer St. in Wayne. Funeral services will take place on Saturday morning, September 12, at 10a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow in the Laurel Grove Cemetery in Totowa, NJ.
