William F. Palmer

1931 - 2015 BENNINGTON William F. Palmer, 83, a resident of Lyons Street, died unexpectedly Monday, Feb. 16, 2015 at the Vermont Veterans Home following a brief illness. Born in Shoreham on Apr. 17, 1931, Bill was the son of the late Stanley and Gladys (Billings) Palmer. He received his education in the Pittsford schools and served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. Bill married the former Eileen Keith on Jan. 19, 1952 in Pittsford. Eileen died on June 9, 2011. In earlier years he was employed at the former Polygraphic Company in North Bennington and later at UST in Bennington for 17 years prior to his retirement. Bill was a member of American Legion Post 13 and an avid fan of both the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time at his camp in Sugar Hollow. He was a great fan of Mt. Anthony Union High School athletic teams and also enjoyed reading. However, Bill's favorite pastime was time spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Michael W. and Jael Palmer and a daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Nelson Blanchard, all of Bennington; six grandchildren, Jodi Beaudoin (Matt), Becky Murphy, Kate Palmer, Jamie Blanchard (Cathleen), Matthew Blanchard (Katelyn) and Lucas Tarquino of Valley Stream, NY; eight great-grandchildren, Tucker and Brady Beaudoin, Evan, Collin and Finn Murphy, Laura Warren and Connor and Natalie Blanchard; a sister, Phyllis Skinner of Lake City, FL; a brother, James Palmer (Betsy) of North Bennington and several nieces, nephews and cousins. FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral will be held from the Mahar and Son Funeral Home on Friday, Feb. 20, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. with a prayer and from Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales at 11 a.m. where the Liturgy of Christian Burial will be offered. Friends may call at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. when the family will be in attendance. Burial will follow in the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery. Should friends desire, memorial contributions in memory of Bill Palmer may be made to either the Southwestern Vermont Regional Cancer Center or to the through the office of the Mahar and Son Funeral Home 628 Main St. Bennington, VT 05201.
