CHESHIRE, Mass. -- Mr. William R. “Bill” Hessler, 51, of Sandmill Road, died Tuesday evening, Sept. 28, 2004, at his home.

He was born in Great Barrington on Feb. 3, 1953, a son of Barbara (Hammer) Hessler May and the late Charles D. Hessler, and attended schools in Pittsfield, graduating from Taconic High School in 1971.

Mr. Hessler was a Vietnam era veteran, serving with the U.S. Army, mainly in Germany, from 1973 until his honorable discharge as a sergeant in 1975.

Following his wartime service, Mr. Hessler worked as a plumber most of his life, and last worked at Adams Plumbing & Heating in Adams. He was a member of Frank R. Stiles Post 125 American Legion in North Adams, and was a member of the Adams Turners. An avid golfer, he was a member of Forest Park Country Club in Adams. He had also played softball in leagues in Bennington, Vt. and Adams.

He also enjoyed hunting and bowling, and spending time with family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, the former Karen Kolis, whom he married on Sept. 12, 1992; his mother and stepfather, Barbara J. and William H. May of Bennington, Vt.; his son, Christopher W. Hessler and his wife, Tina, of Bennington; a grandson, Damien C. Hessler of Bennington; two stepsons, Justin and Derek Pinsonneault of Savoy; three sisters, Bonnie D. Johnson of Pittsfield, Peggy L. Jenks of Bondville, Vt. and Joan M. Campbell of Bennington; two brothers, Charles D. Hessler of Pittsfield and Robert A. May of Kannapolis, N.C.; seven nieces, seven nephews and several grandnieces and grandnephews.

The funeral will be held on Friday, Oct. 1, at 11 a.m. in the Auge’-Paciorek-Simmons Funeral Home, 13 Hoosac St. Adams. The Rev. Joseph D. Devlin, S.J., of St. Patrick and St. Raphael Parish, Williamstown, will officiate. Burial will follow in the Park Lawn Cemetery in Bennington.

Calling hours are Friday from 10 a.m. until the service.

Memorial donations may be made to the Hoosac Valley High School Golf Team, Cheshire or to the C. H. McCann Technical High School Golf Team, North Adams, through the funeral home.
