NORTH BENNINGTON -- William R. Rodgers, 68, a resident of McGuire St., North Bennington, died Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2007, at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Bill was born in Cambridge, Mass., Nov. 28, 1938. He was the son of the late Simon George Rodgers and Bessie M. (Smith) Rodgers.

He received his education in Cambridge, Mass., where he attended Cambridge and Latin High School and later graduated from Somerville Trade School. Bill married the former Helen D. Hunt, Nov. 11, 1960, in Littleton, Mass. For 18 years Bill was employed as an industrial welder in Concord, Mass.

In April of 1979, Bill moved his family to Bennington where he formed a partnership with Robert “Buster” Barnhardt in the operation of On the Spot Rug Cleaners, and later, Bennington Dry Wall. Following “Busters” retirement, Bill worked with Norman LaCroix in the painting business. He enjoyed woodworking and was a master craftsman. Bill had a great sense of humor and was known for his quick wit. He especially enjoyed spending time at his camp with his family in the Northeast Kingdom. He was an avid fisherman. Bill was a social member of the American Legion Post 13 in Bennington and a former member of the Chelmsford, Mass., Elks Lodge and the Bennington Moose Lodge.

Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Helen D. Rodgers, of North Bennington; four daughters, Lisa Eszterhazi and her husband, Rick, of Phoenix, Ariz., Kristine Davis of Merrimack, N.H., Tracy Micali and her husband, Paul, of Merrimack, N.H., and Charlene Pleasant and her significant other, Josh Crawford of Bennington; six grandchildren, Justin William Rodgers-Davis, Lindsay Elizabeth Davis, Erin Patricia Macali, Brianna Marie Pleasant, David Paul Macali, Frederick Albert Eszterhazi IV; two brothers, Leslie G. Rodgers of Atlanta, Georgia and Robert T. Rodgers of Chelmsford, Mass; a sister, Pearl Skirus, of Stoneham, Mass; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was pre-deceased by a grandson, Paul Terrance Micali Jr. and a sister, Doris Sellers.

The funeral will be held from the Mahar & Son Funeral Home on Saturday, Jan. 13, 2007, at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. Penny Rich Smith, pastor of the North Bennington Congregational Church officiating.

Friends may call at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home on Friday, Jan. 12, from 4 to 7 p.m. when the family will be in attendance.
