William F. Sorensen

1923 - 2015 BENNINGTON William Frederick Sorensen, age 91, a resident of Park Street in North Bennington, VT died on Friday, August 7, 2015 at the Albany Medical Center following a brief illness. He was born in Bennington, VT on December 25, 1923 and was the son of the late Sinuis and Winifred (Hogan) Sorensen. He received his education at Sacred Heart Elementary School and Bennington High School. He was drafted into the Army and served in the Infantry during World War II. After returning from the war, he went to work for Polygraphic Printing. He retired after 38 years of service. At the time of his retirement, he was a Five Color Lithographer. William married the former Jean Robinson on June 17, 1950 at St. John the Baptist Church in North Bennington, Mrs. Sorensen survives. William was a member of the American Legion Post #13 of Bennington, and the Lithographer's Union. He was a former assistant coach in the Junior Bowling League in Bennington. He enjoyed golfing and played at the various courses in the area. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and all outdoor activities. Survivors besides his wife, include two children, Dr. Susan Sorensen and her husband, Fernando Ruiz, Esq. of Ft. Wayne, IN, and Joseph Sorensen, and his partner, Dr. Larry Rudiger of Burlington. He leaves four grandchildren; Elizabeth, Matthew, Daniel and Rebecca Ruiz. William also leaves one niece, JoAnne Hendee of Bennington. He is predeceased by one brother and sister-in-law, Alfred and Lila Sorensen. FUNERAL NOTICE: A Mass of Christian Death and Burial will be held on Tuesday, August 11, at St. John the Baptist Church at 12 p.m. Friends may call at the church on Tuesday from 11 a.m. until the time of the mass. Burial will follow in the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery in Bennington, where military honors will be offered. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and the staff at SVMC and at Albany Medical Center for the compassionate care that they gave to William. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John the Baptist Church and/or Mary's Garden, through the Mahar and Son Funeral Home, 628 Main St., Bennington, VT 05201.
